New In The Phoenix -- Lynch's Left Flank

In this week's issue of the Boston Phoenix -- in print tomorrow, online now -- I write a two-item column on local politics.

First, I look at the potential for a primary challenge to Congressman Stephen Lynch. Lynch, never a favorite of the liberals, drove many over the edge with his vote against the health care reform bill. At least one progressive is seriously considering running against him.

In the second item, I note the potential importance of Charlestown in the upcoming special election primary for state senate, in the seat vacated by Anthony Galluccio. Three years ago, when Galluccio won the seat in a similar special election, Charlestown was largely ignored and forgotten; this time, it may hold the key to victory.

The article is here:

Lynch's Left Flank: The Southie Congressman may have pushed progressives too far this time.

Also in the issue, check out the Phoenix editorial, which comments briefly on the Catholic Church's latest abuse troubles; recent anti-government violence; and Massachusetts's failure to win Race To The Top education funding.
