This morning, the lovely town of Salem, Massachusetts announced the adoption of a new promotional tag line: "Still Making History."

Salem's mayor, Kim Driscoll, Tweeted about it this morning. Driscoll, as an aside, is much-rumored as a candidate for US Senate in 2012. And, as an aside to that aside, I have been insinuating that, given the fact that she's mayor of SALEM, it seems interesting that she has never produced PROOF that she is not actually a WITCH.

It turns out, you can be pretty snarky in 140 characters. I've been on Twitter for a couple of years now (follow me at twitter.com/dbernstein), and use it for a variety of purposes: breaking bits of political news; passing along news or commentary of interest; linking to my articles and blog posts; offering brief observations and commentary; interacting with readers and political junkies; and of course, cracking humorous one-liners.

"NathanSpencer" asks, via Twitter appropriately:

"Are tools like Twitter and Facebook really helping candidates GOTV? Who is using it best?"

I've seen no evidence of it helping in any significant way with GOTV in any local elections, and have heard few if any convincing tales from elsewhere. I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience to the contrary, though.
