Review: Little Fockers

A transparent cash grab for everyone involved

Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, and . . . Little Fockers? Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel are reunited after 34 years, and all we get is a lame Keitel cameo? At least Dustin Hoffman, citing concerns over the script, had the good sense not to reprise his role from Jay Roach's Meet the Fockers (2004). But wait! Early in this humorless sequel, Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) is on the phone with his mom, Roz (Barbra Streisand), when dad Bernie (Hoffman) joins the conversation from Seville. That's right, Hoffman actually does phone in his performance in what is a money grab for everyone, new director Paul Weitz (American Dreamz) included. Nurse Greg secretly moonlights by promoting an erectile-dysfunction drug to pay for his twins' education, and that raises the eyebrows of ailing father-in-law Jack (De Niro), who was looking to Greg to succeed him in the patriarchal role of "Godfocker." In the end, though, it's the limp comedy that needs a shot of "Sustengo."
