Jews and Latinos get cozy

ADL + LPN 4EVA

While US Senate Republicans dropped politically prudent bombshells on Sonia Sotomayor during her Supreme Court–nomination hearings this week, watchdogs from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Latino Professional Network (LPN) kept extra close ears on rage speech bubbling through conservative media channels. According to both groups, it's one thing for South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham to say, "I think your experience can add a lot to the Court, but I don't think it makes you better than anyone else"; it's quite another for Glenn Beck to allege that President Barack Obama said, "Hey — Hispanic chick lady. You're empathetic? You're in," as he suggested was Sotomayor's screening process.

In order to address a rise in "anti-immigrant rhetoric and hate crimes targeting Latinos," on June 30 ADL and LPN activists broke bread at the Cambridge Street offices of Prince Lobel Glovsky & Tye. Before a crowd that included mayoral contenders Sam Yoon and Michael Flaherty — as well as consulate representatives from Israel and Ecuador — leaders from both organizations shook hands and smiled as if posing for the cover of a Benetton catalog.

City Council President Michael Ross — whose district spans from Beacon Hill to Mission Hill (a geographic metaphor of sorts for the ADL-LPN union) — led the charge, saying that Latin and Jewish children should "see the same skyline." Moving forward, Governor Deval Patrick's Deputy Chief of Staff David Morales told onlookers that Jewish families were the first to hire Latin musicians to play weddings, while New England ADL Director Derek Shulman stated the three central catalysts for the congregation: the blaming of Mexican-Americans for swine flu, the Sotomayor attacks, and the berating that Latino people recently endured from such inflammatory conservatives as Boston crock-jock Jay Severin.

"We know what it's like to be scapegoated," said Shulman. "That's why we're the best in the business . . . but we're still unfortunately up against a growth industry."

Asked about specific actions that this new partnership (tentatively dubbed the "Latino/Jewish Roundtable") is taking in consideration of the Sotomayor hearings, Shulman said they are still in the process of selecting planning and steering committees, and of incorporating more Jewish and Latino groups from across the Commonwealth. But that doesn't mean his posse isn't paying close attention.

"When criticism of Sotomayor's nomination goes beyond legitimate critique of policy and previous decisions, we don't just want Latinos expressing outrage," says Shulman. "We want Jews to do the same thing. When the Holocaust Museum shootings happened, it wasn't just Jews who called my office to express sympathy — everybody did."

The ADL's hypocrisy on genocide
I respectfully suggest that Latinos be wary of getting involved with the Anti-Defamation League. Armenian Americans have had terrible experiences with it. The national ADL has long denied the Armenian genocide. The national ADL has also been part of a political deal that had the ADL work with Turkey, which committed the genocide, to oppose Armenian genocide resolutions in the US Congress. Despite what some people may think, the national ADL still hasn’t unambiguously recognized the Armenian genocide/holocaust. The ADL has been playing word games. And the Boston area ADL is playing a game in which it tries to be the good cop and the national ADL is the bad cop. However, no one believes that the local ADL is any different. This issue made news in the Boston Globe and internationally two years ago. You have to assume that Latino groups know all about it. There are many good people in the ADL. There is no doubt about that. But the ADL is not really a human rights group. It’s a political group, and a very hypocritical one. It asks Americans to commemorate the Holocaust while belittling the Armenian genocide and hurting Armenians. It’s sad to have to say that but it’s true. Re: Jews and Latinos get cozy

LATINOS USED AS PAWNS BY ADL

As usual, in pursuit of their own political agenda, ADL is mesmerizing the Latinos to gain their sympathy and recruit new allies, in a world where ADL is finding itself more and more isolated.

I am fully confident that, ADL’s only concern is to safeguard their political agenda, and works heart and soul to suppress any human rights issue, small or large, that do not benefit them or overlaps their political agenda; this is why ADL denies the Armenian Holocaust to please Turkey, the perpetrator, and in the very words of Abraham Foxman, ADL’s national director, reported in the Boston Globe on August 19 , 2007, saying that the recognition of the Arnemian Genocide by Congress is “counterproductive”. This illustrates best that, unlike many good intentioned Jewish organizations, ADL is not really a human rights organization, as they portray themselves, but a bigoted hypocritical political group. As a result to their attitude toward other peoples’ legitimate human rights, 14 Massachusetts Towns and Cities and the MMA (Massachusetts Municipal Association) have severed ties with their NPFH "supposedly" anti-hate program.

Based on recent experience, I would like to caution the Latino groups not to be carried away by ADL’s apparent empathy toward them but to be mindful of ADL’s self interest in doing so.

Re: Jews and Latinos get cozy
The ADL is nothing but a political organization protecting, promoting and disseminating hawkish Jewish and Israeli interests across America and the world.

Now we hear that the ADL is cozying up with Latino Americans, including younger ones, knowing full well that we are the largest minority in the U.S with increasing political clout.

Fellow Latinos, beware! The ADL will spy on us, co-opt our leaders and drag us into their shameful international campaigns of non-Jewish/Israeli discrimination, hate, and genocide denial. Don't be fooled by their vast resources and sugar-coated services. Let's not allow ourselves to be their next target. Let's stay completely away from them, and instead strengthen our existing community organizations and interethnic networks.

Re: Jews and Latinos get cozy
It is too bad that the ADL is seeking out other minorities to further legitimize their questionable existence.  Look at your own priorities and agenda and straighten them out before trying to interfere and get involved with yet another group of people, seen as a a very large and somewhat vulnerable social group.  Latinos -  look at the ADL's track record recently with other "minority" groups, such as the Armenians.  Be careful and reserved and ask the tough questions.   You will be glad you did.

Re: Jews and Latinos get cozy
Bbe alert to the intentions of the ADL.  It's likely there's more in it for their interests than others, they're unlikely to put their time and money into something that does not primarily serve their agenda.  In the last few years they've made a lot of controversy in the Boston area which presents a hypocritical nature.  Be careful whom you can trust...

Re: Jews and Latinos get cozy
With the almost certainty of the elevation to the Supreme Court of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, the Latinos are now the flavor of the month, and it didn’t take long for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to jump on the bandwagon to tell the world how much it has always loved the Latinos and that it is ensuring that no one defames the Latinos. Under the leadership of the ADL, and in league with Turkey, only the Armenians may be defamed, and the historical fact of the Armenian Genocide may be denied. This is on behalf of the same Turkey that accused Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza; the same Turkey where Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf is a best-seller; the same Turkey where a recent popular film depicted Jewish doctors as harvesters of organs from hapless victims--and with no word of complaint from the ADL Does the word “hypocrisy” come to mind?
