[download] Matthew Connor, "Ghost Town" EP

Just a little more than a year ago we dubbed party-starters Provocateur an "eroti-pocalyptic electro-pop juggernaut." Last March's Bad Blood & Brushfire was a moody, hyper-synth'd taxicab ride connecting the slick dance floors of Allston, Cambridge, and Jamaica Plain to the seedy afterparties that kept the glittery nights alive. Now, charasmatic front man MATTHEW CONNOR is stepping away from the constant pounding of the electro pulse and stripping it all down with a new EP, Ghost Town, that's available for free download today via Bandcamp and Soundcloud.

His crooner voice, at times channeling Bryan Ferry in distress, works surprisingly well over the gentle, folk-ish acoustics. Call it the morning after the party, the soundtrack for when everyone's gone long home, and the mess still remains.

BANDCAMP: Matthew Connor Ghost Town [mp3]

Says Connor: The songs of Ghost Town were written as a teenager, between the ages of 16 and 19. Going back and revisiting them felt in many ways similar to finding a long forgotten high school journal buried in a box: awkward, even embarrassing, yet strangely comforting.

These new recordings were done in my bedroom; idling garbage trucks, clanging radiators, and upstairs neighbors with improbably loud footsteps all make cameos. I'm currently working on a full length album of new material in a proper studio, to be released later this year, but I hope in the meantime you enjoy this collection of songs about long ago, far away towns and the ghosts that still inhabit them.

Ghost Town is dedicated to Jim Grimsley and Scott Heim, whose work inspired and informed these recordings.
