[live from the wfnx sapporo house] Foster the People, the Joy Formidable, Neon Trees @ Coachella off-site

For the Boston Phoenix and WFNX crew, Coachella 2011 wasn't just about getting dusty and busty in an open polo field in the desert of Indio while salivating to Suede, Kanye, and the Strokes. Thanks to our radio station crew, we had a bunch of bands swing by our swank-ass golf course resort crib to hang out, crack open a few Sapporos, shoot the shit and play some acoustic tunes. No one but Paul Driscoll haphazardly jumped into the pool, but everything else went as smoothly as possible... and anytime a dapper Matt Berninger calmly walks into a shitshow party house and coolly announces "Hi, we're the National," you know you're in the right spot.

Here are three of the weekend live performances, courtesy of FOSTER THE PEOPLE playing their massive jam "Pumped Up Kicks," the incredibly awesome, friendly, and chill-as-fuck JOY FORMIDABLE stripping down a still-loud-sounding "Whirring"  (also: we all bro'd down over our undying love for 2nd-wave Britpop legends Mansun afterwards) and the sly cats in NEON TREES doing "Your Surrender. One last classic Coachella tidbit: Neon Trees don't drink, as they be Mormons, but their driver certainly does.Dude demanded to know where the bar was the second he rolled up.

Thanks to WFNX for putting us up, and thanks to Sapporo for making it all happen. Sorry about the mess.
