[phlipcam video] Suede "Trash" @ Coachella 2011

Anyone who knows me is very much aware of my love and obsession of Britpop kickstarters SUEDE. So while we await the upload of my nervous 15-minute chat last night with front man Brett Anderson, I’ll post some phlipcam action of “Trash” from their Coachella set, the legendary British rock band’s triumphant return to the states after a 14-year absence.

Sadly, one of Suede’s final US gigs was in 1997 at the Paradise, when the band’s gear was stolen outside the Commonwealth Avenue venue. In my chat with Anderson, not only do I apologize on behalf of the city of Boston for the crime, but drummer Simon Gilbert also reveals that one of Richard Oakes’ guitars was found years later in a second-hand shop out in the ‘burbs. Nice work, Boston.

This "Trash" clip above features usual keyboardist/bored smoker Neil Codling on bass, who learned the parts over the past few days after Mat Osman’s visa was denied. It’s truly Codling’s finest contribution to Suede since penning “Digging A Hole,” and he skillfully channels his sexy, aloof boredom into his new role with classic indifferent swagger.

In truth, the Majove stage tent wasn’t exactly packed for Suede’s 10:40pm Saturday night set, but the few thousand who were there were losing their shit, shaking their bits to the hits, and high on diesel and the gas-powered comeback of Suede. I can’t remember the last time I saw so many giddy, smiling faces in a crowd. This was for the stateside fans that waited many moons for this, and it only took a few chords of set opener “She” to remind us why Suede is one of the greatest UK rock bands of all time. And if you disagree, well we aren't intent on sharing them with you, anyway. That's how it is.

More to come on this later; really, I’m still taking it all in. Sorry for all the Suede posts, kids. It wasn’t for the hipster types out there to see Sleigh Bells and Jack Beats, fo-sho, but they had their adoring lot all the same.

Oh and by the way, if you want to watch a clip of "The Drowners" with my stupid ass singing falsetto over the band, here you go. My bust; I was feeling it.
