One reason I love EDM (electronic dance music) clubs/nights is because of the eclectic group of people that attend -- and last night at the Phoenix Landing was no exception.

In one corner was a wildebeest of a man who had to have been at least 50-years-old, quietly staking out the crowd; in another side of the room was the guy just feeling the music in his zebra-skinned hat and black leather shirt -- and he was just getting dAWon; up front was the seedy hipster couple grinding each other to the techno flavored beats, and much much more. It's just enough to get you all warm and fuzzy inside really, or feeling like you need to go on safari. Either one.

But what really rocked last night were the beats. Not only does Soul Clap resident DJ Sergio Santos warm up the crowd nicely with sometimes deep and slightly funky house beats, he dropped a sick chunky track, that I later learned was called "Miss Bojangles" from DJ Joze (both of whom I can't find anywhere online), to lead in DJ Cassy from Berlin.

Cassy starts off with some VERY Berlin-styled techno. The darker-side of techno doesn't bring any one down, though, and kids who were wall flowers five minutes prior are head-popping and shaking their hips to the one-twos like they just can't stop. While the warm and fuzzy house feeling is definitely dissipating, the hypnotic, almost trancey, thumps are keeping everyone lively on the dancefloor.

An eruption of cheers and "Hell yeahs!" always tells the DJ she's doing her job just right, and Cassy recieves her fair-share. She blends the perfect concoction of chunky, dirty, grindy, and melodic beats to keep the crowd entertained and excited to see what's coming next.

By far I am not a big techno fan, but Cassy makes me want to convert. Not only did she have the crowd pleased and bumpin', but Cassy was all dimples all night long -- a testament to how much she enjoys her work.
