For the young talent in Mass. Hysteria, taking chances comes easily. Their newest project makes a bold departure from the standard fare of American-style ska and reggae, delving into American RPM/Electronica, as well as Jamaican roots music.
While most of their friends were starting their freshman year at college, Mass. Hysteria was putting the finishing touches on their new album Waiting for the Day, which became an underground hit and received coast-to-coast radio airplay.
Now, they're back with a set of electronica-inspired remixes from that album. The rhythm-heavy editing is the product of a partnership with Victor Rice from Studio Rocha in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The results are evocative of the late-'70s Jamaican exports which popularized reggae, but have the densely layered rhythms of twenty-first century RPM.
