MORE ABOUT CHARLIE KOHLHASE'S EXPLORERS CLUB
Charlie Kohlhase moved to the Boston area in 1980 and over the years has worked with large ensembles like the Either/ Orchestra and the Makanda Project as well as his own Quintets and Trios. Charlie has recorded with Roswell Rudd and John Tchicai, among many others. Formed as a Quintet in 2005, the Explorers Club soon bloomed into a 7-piece unit. Charter members Charlie Kohlhase & Matt Langley: saxophones; Jeff Galindo: trombone; Eric Hofbauer: guitar; Jef Charland: bass and Miki Matsuki & Chris Punis: drums are often joined by trumpeter Jerry Sabatini and tympanist/ percussionist Mike Connors. The group plays Kohlhase's witty modern-edged compositions as well as works by Graham Connah, Sun Ra and John Tchicai. The Explorers Club's debut recording 'Adventures' was released in 2007 on Vermont's Boxholder label.
