MORE ABOUT GAMBLIN' HANDS

The musical styles played by Gamblin Hands are not limited or held under any restraint. The band combines blues, folk, progressive rock, jazz, psychedelic rock, and country; producing a sound that reflects on indigenous American music both modern and vintage. While the structured songwriting and lyrical ingénue are tight and well-formed, at the heart of the Gamblin Hands live sound is the impetus to experiment and develop the music between the songs.

Gamblin' Hands formed in the spring of 2008 with Josh Grabert (guitar/vocals), Jake Dady (bass/vocals) and original drummer Matt Reinhardt. During the first year of their existence, the trio flirted with different musical genres and began to establish the foundation of their songwriting style. While this time was incredibly productive and important to the band’s development, ultimately it was ill-fated with Matt leaving the band in the early summer of 2009. Josh and Jake saw no other choice but to forge on ahead as a two piece, and shifted their performance into a mostly acoustic direction. This time also found the band in the midst of a torrent of songwriting inspiration and song development. But, after playing a few shows where people generally asked: 'where's the drummer?' Jake invited his cousin Burt Masse to join in on drums at one of their residential gigs at a local bar. Burt agreed and played a set with Jake and Josh without knowing any of their songs. The show was unrehearsed and raw but the ensemble had great fun and Burt decided that he would like to play drums with the band fulltime.

The addition of Burt to the permanent line-up also added a backbone of rhythm and melody that helped to expand and round out the Gamblin Hands sound. His locked-in, driving drum progressions and lilting harmonizing vocals added a level of complexity to the already deep and full-bodied twosome. With Josh and Jake both possessing developed and distinct songwriting voices, as well as quality multi-instrumental musicianship, the establishment of Gamblin Hands as a trio had ensured a limitless level of musical growth.

Recently, the band has been gigging around the Rhode Island and Southern New England area at venues such as Tazza, Jerky’s, and The Living Room in Providence, The Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, and a residency at the Greenwich Hotel in East Greenwich. The group has also been recording at Sounds Interesting recording studio in Middleboro, MA with sound engineer Rob Pemberton. They have just released their first five-song EP entitled ‘Far Away Cars’ on iTunes and CDBaby.com
