MORE ABOUT SAM HOOPER

Hooper's guitar performance, praised as "fiery" and "transcending into something nearly spiritual," displays a versatility that has served him well in his career. An accomplished musician, Hooper is adept in blues, folk, funk, jazz, and rock guitar styles. His songwriting is a warm infusion of these genres, tempered by his vocal style which critics have described as "fine singing...smooth but tough."

Since moving to Massachusetts in 1988, Hooper has performed in bands and vocal groups in New England, New York City, Memphis, Nashville and abroad. He excited Boston-area audiences as guitarist and singer for The Elders and the Angela McClenton Band, which played to packed rooms at the original House of Blues in Cambridge.

With the release of his first self-titled cassette, and his dynamic showcase performance at NEMO'99, ("the premier music conference & showcase in the northeast"-newsday) Sam Hooper has branched out on his own as a singer/songwriter. He has gained many new fans from intimate acoustic performances at venues that include Cambridge's legendary Club Passim , Borders Books & Music , and Kenny's Castaway's in New York City's Greenwich Village. Sam is currently writing & recording material for his first solo CD project.
