MORE ABOUT DAN LILLEY / LOVETRAIN

Dan Lilley is a longtime local songwriter and bandleader. Over the years he has performed as a solo performer and member of RISA. He has fronted many bands such as original bands Tyger Tyger, The Flying Ditchdiggers, and currently, Lovetrain. Lovetrain is a 4-piece rock and roll band from Providence, Rhode Island, USA. The band was started in 1993 and released its first cassette, entitled “Off The Track” in 1995. Shortly afterwards the band underwent lineup changes, transforming themselves from a country-tinged rock band to a harder edged rock and roll outfit. The band is now Dan Lilley on vocals, guitar, and harmonica; John Amitrano on bass and vocals; Mike Sullivan on lead guitar and Phil Hicks on drums. Through steady performing at nightclubs, festivals, and parties they have built a solid following throughout New England.
The group released a CD, “Almost Home”, in April of 2000 containing 10 songs written by Lilley. The CD features several guest musicians who add an eclectic touch to the band’s classic rock sound with accordian, violin, piano, lap steel guitar and harmony vocals. The CD has received excellent reviews in local press and was nominated in The Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll as a contender for Best Local Album in 2000. The band’s sound has been described as “melodic working-man music, falling somewhere between the wise-guy pop of Marshall Crenshaw, the Jersey sounds of the Boss and Southside Johnny(without the Jukes), and the roots-rock sound of the Cracker clan.” (Bob Gulla @ The Providence Phoenix, April 7, 2000)
“Almost Home” has been selling well at shows and is available at record stores all over Rhode Island and online at cdbaby.com/lovetrain. In March of 2002 the band went into the studio to cut a live recording of seven new Lilley compositions. This recording is circulating locally and receiving rave reviews from their faithful fans. Dan has also been nominated in the 2006 Providence Phoenix “Best Of...” music poll for Best Male vocalist and in the 2006 and 2007 “Motif Magazine Music Award” Poll in the same category! Meanwhile, the band continues to gig steadily at clubs throughout New England. By constantly learning new songs and finding new venues to play, the guys in the band keep the music fresh and exciting, both for themselves and for their audiences.
