MORE ABOUT THE CHANNELS

The Channels are an indie-pop band from Boston. They formed in the summer of 2003 in Falmouth, MA with the intention of recording 50's inspired pop songs. Their first song, "Baby, You Make My Heart Sing," was written in minutes and recorded that night.

Consisting initially of Ben Svenson (vocals/guitar), Robert Sergel (vocals/guitar/keyboards/drums) and Chris Marcal (bass), the band spent the following school year in New York, writing and recording new songs, while gradually adopting a more modern palette of sounds. Following the addition of drummer Andrew Leroy, the "studio project" conception was abandoned and the group began to play live shows.

In the winter of 2006, the band returned to Boston, at which point Chris left the band and was replaced by Rob Frashure. Their self-titled debut took three years to make, and was recorded variously in two beach houses, two suburban homes, five apartments, three recording studios, a stairwell and a bathroom.

We're proud to report that "The Moon" song off of the Channels debut album has been selected by the Boston Phoenix as one of the best songs of 2006 by a local act.
