MORE ABOUT ZAWADI
Zawadi began as the brainchild of Providence-based poets Desiree Nash and Ammala Douangsavanh. They have since been blessed to share this experiment in word and sound with some of RI's most talented musicians.
Zawadi, meaning 'precious gift', in the Kiswahili language of East Africa, includes: Aarin 'Abstract Soul' Clemons - (voice/beatbox), Glenn Alexander - (drums/ acoustic guitar), Jim Richardson - (guitar- electric/acoustic), Jeff Richardson -
(upright bass), and adopted bandmate, Mike Cordeiro (keys).
Together, they fuse poetry and song, weaving through the musical genres that have drawn its roots from the African diaspora.
Zawadi released their self-titled debut album in May '06, to kind accolades from local media such as The Providence American, The Providence Phoenix and RI's favorite hip hop online forum: 401hiphop.com. They are currently working on material for their sophomore release and an '07/'08 east coast tour.
