Ex-Lion Tamer is Assaf Tager, Haggai Fershtman, and Zoe Polanksi. They seductively stir noise, shoegaze, and broken pop into a melodic stew.
After graduating from the London Music Academy, Assaf Tager slowly but surely became a session handyman in London, a position that led him to gigs for the BBC, Portishead, Moloko, and the late Elliot Smith. Soon after, he decided to return to Israel to pursue his own goals.
It was here that he connected with dynamic Israeli drummer, Haggai Fershtman, and the two began to create music for different projects, most notably the biggest noise band in Israel, Family Butchers. After experimenting with several bands, and even traveling to Chicago to record with Bob Weston at Steve Albini's studio, they still hadn't found the sound they were looking for.
Enter Zoe Polanksi. A young guitarist and singer, Polanski joined the others initially to compose music for an international project assembling Jaques Prevert's lyrics into relevant pop music. After just two rehearsals, the group was so surprised and excited by the results that they decided to stay together as a band.
Ex-Lion Tamer has just recorded their debut album with renowned producer Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Helmet, Dinosaur Jr, etc), and are about to embark on their second tour of the US.
