MORE ABOUT SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA

SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA is an all-original band with a sound evocative of many genres and a dual approach to their work. Forged from the creative collaboration of four NH musicians dedicated to making music that is both accessible and on the fringes of the existing soundscape, their recordings reflect a widely varied set of influences and taste, with something for nearly everyone-from pop-oriented surf-rock to experimental noise-punk to 70’s-inspired, jam-based psychedelia, Scandal is always seeking to bring a new angle to musical composition.

The group is currently comprised of: drummer/vocalist/lyricist Seth Chatfield (who has been an active member of many bands in the past including Mobius, the Elevator Tribe, Limestone, Axis and renowned NH rock band 440, which was interviewed by Manchester’s Hippo Press and received air time on WGIR, Rock 101), guitarist and occasional bass player Jennifer Mavris (a dedicated artist who is also the band’s primary songwriter) Tom Frechette who just recently came on board filling the role of drummer (Zero Factor) and “stunt guitarist” Kalev Virks (formerly of Limestone and Colorado band Fazoul).

In May of 2005,Scandal in Bohemia completed recording their premiere CD, “Prepay After Dark,” a 13-song collection which spans the band’s musical and stylistic repertoire, with the aid of renowned drummer and experimental musician John Stout of the Elevator Tribe at Dream Authority Studios in Guilford, VT.

The band’s live show is a different experience, as songs that are flush with detail and seasoning on the CD are stripped down and rocked out, creating a more distinctively “punk” atmosphere while retaining the core of the musical themes. They also perform a number of original songs not appearing on the recorded album.

The band began under the name “Friends With Coppolas,” performing in and around the Monadnock Region and in Vermont. Now in its present incarnation, the band has appeared most recently at the The Weathervane in Brattleboro, Vt and Club Drifters in Nashua, NH, and is now receiving airplay on stations such as wknh radio.

Scandal in Bohemia also remains actively involved in the creation of experimental music as well, and plans to collaborate with several area musicians for special releases as part of their “Pretentious Toast” conceptual organization in the near future.
