MORE ABOUT KATRINA ABRAMO

Katrina Abramo exploded onto the Portland Maine music scene little more than a year ago, with a dynamic and beautiful musical style reminiscent of Nora Jones, Jewel, or Fiona Apple. Her visual songs use metaphors to explore universal, relateable emotions and experiences. She is more than a voice or lyracist; her music and playing are an integral part of the experience.

Katrina Abramo began playing guitar at a young age. From very early on she displayed a natural talent for expressing personal and universal themes through her music and lyrics. Katrina moved from Massachusetts to Peaks Island, Maine at the age of sixteen, where the slower pace of island life enabled her to devote more energy to music, and for the first time, to writing. Encouraged by family and friends, Katrina began frequenting a local music venue in Portland, Acoustic Coffee, where she distinguished herself from the beginning as a rare talent, displaying a remarkable combination of beautiful songwriting and singing ability. It was not long before Katrina was performing her own shows around town.

Other upcoming Portland artists began to recognize her potential, including Kevin Oulette, who invited Katrina to join his band, Subject Bias, on bass and backing vocals. Though Katrina had no experience as a bassist, she picked it up enthusiastically. Over the next year, Katrina played with Subject Bias at venues all over the northeast, at famous venues in places such as Portland, ME, Meadowbrook NH, Dover NH, Northampton MA, New York City, and elsewhere. Though Katrina is no longer with Subject Bias, she continues to work with former bandmate- local songwriter, musician and recording engineer Frank Hopkins, with whom Katrina is recording a new CD, to be released on Cat & Mouse Records in 2006.
