MORE ABOUT ANDY PRATT

One of the fathers of Boston Rock, Andy Pratt first came to fame with the lead-off track of his 1973 Columbia album "Andy Pratt" with the unique hit single Avenging Annie. This was actually his second major-label album. His first, 'Records are like Life", was released on Polydor in 1971. Born into a rich Boston family in 1947, Andy attended Browne and Nichols, Westminster and Harvard College, graduating in 1968, by which time he had already played in rock bands for ten years. In 1968 he formed the power trio Butter with James Thompson and drummer Rick Shlosser, who played with him on and off for the next ten years then went on to Boz Scaggs, James Taylor, Joan Baez, Van Morrison, and others. Pratt toured in '73 with a band that included famed jazz guitarist John Scofield, and Spyro Gyra's Dave Samuels, as well as singer Erin Dickens and Pat Rosalia, who went on to join Greg Allman. After his father's death in 1975, Pratt re-entered the music industry with a new purpose. In 1976 his new belief in love and people power emerged in the album Resolution, produced by Arif Mardin and released on Atlantic Records. Resolution featured the best pop musicians of the day, and got rave reviews. Pratt formed a crack band and toured America, playing to thousands with such groups as Foreigner, the Band, Loggins and Messina, and others. His second Mardin album, Shiver in the Night, stands as a classic from the disco era, and features appearances by Luther Van Dross and the Brecker Brothers. In 1977, after a final concert for 7000 people in Boston's City Hall Plaza, Pratt was forced to leave the music industry due to lack of support. He has continued to write, play, and record to this day. Andy Pratt music and articles on him can be found on many web sites, including his own, andyprattnow.com, itsaboutmusic.com, and amazon.com.
