MORE ABOUT THE HENDRIES

Modern Rock that remembers its roots!

The Hendries began in November of 2004, when Scott Toolin (guitar/vocals) met up with Matt Walsh (drums) in a 45-degree basement in Sagamore Beach, MA. While the two came from considerably different musical backgrounds, they found a common influence in the Alternative and Indie Rock bands of the late 80s and early 90s. This music would act as the springboard for The Hendries’ sound, with Matt adding elements of his Progressive and Hard Rock background, while Scott brought in influences from early Punk and Blues.

Early shows included bassist Jim Roderick, who left the band in May, 2006. Roderick was replaced by multi-instrumentalist, and surf-guitar enthusiast, Michael Purcell. Originally auditioned as a second guitarist, Mike’s proficiency on a number of instruments (including guitar, bass, drums, keys, and even theremin) allowed him to fill the vacant bass position.

The Hendries write catchy, powerful Modern Rock songs, rooted in the styles of the early Alternative legends, but peppered with elements of great bands throughout the history of Rock. The bandmates’ vast array of influences combines to create music that is difficult to categorize, but appeals to a wide audience. When asked how he would describe his band’s sound, Scott replied simply, “Modern Rock that remembers its roots.”
