Rob Lind unleashes a new Ducky Boys album

The DUCKY BOYS are celebrating their fourth album, The War Back Home (Sailor’s Grave), with a CD-release show at Great Scott tonight (Thursday, April 20) with Beijing’s Brain Failure, Born to Lose, and Boston’s TOMMY AND THE TERRORS . Recorded over several weekends between last November and January with Jim Siegel at the Outpost in Stoughton, the album is summed up by its cover art, a latchkey kid with a dog tag on his key ring. “Long story short, it basically means there’s a lot of shit back here on the home front that needs our attention, between schools and poverty and other issues,” says singer/bassist Mark Lind. In addition to the CD-release party, the band plans a free all-ages show at UMass Lowell on April 28, as well as a tour of the East Coast and upper Midwest in the fall, “the perfect time for people that buy our records, when they’re back in school, pissed off and looking for something fun to do to take their minds off of school and work and stuff,” Lind says. Sailor’s Grave is also offering a package deal that bundles The War Back Home with Lind’s solo album, Death or Jail , recorded at 202 Lions Studio in Quincy with Marc Flynn, singer/guitarist of local indie rock quartet the SHARKING . . . JAKE BRENNAN AND THE CONFIDENCE MEN entered Camp Street Studios last week to begin work with producer Paul Q. Kolderie on a follow-up to their 2004 debut Love & Bombs (Yep Roc). Brennan has also enlisted a new manager: MARK KATES of Fenway Recordings, whose portfolio also includes MISSION OF BURMA , Doves, and the Cribs. The band’s new “Santa Gave to You What You’re Giving to Me,” is set to be released on a Yep Roc Christmas compilation this winter alongside tunes from the Minus 5, Marah, and the Reverend Horton Heat. The Con Men support Ben Lee at the Paradise on April 26 and My Morning Jacket (with the Pops!) at Symphony Hall on June 21 and June 22.
