The China syndrome

By MATT TAIBBI  |  December 16, 2009

Sore losers
Nothing in the world is funnier than athletes representing religious schools getting into a bloody brawl after a game.

It seems that a bunch of past and present football players from Texas Lutheran University didn't take kindly to being ribbed at a party by a player from the University of the Incarnate Word after the latter team beat TLU 53-18 a few weeks back. So four of the TLU players — Jonathan D. Randle, Sahr S. Bindi, Ernesto S. Garcia, and Joshua D. McNeil — followed the Incarnate Word player out of the home and beat him senseless.

Police caught up with the quartet and issued aggravated-assault warrants for all four. As that's a first-degree felony, they now all stand to receive five to 99 years for their trouble. Give these jokers 31 points each, and say a prayer for them. With Texas justice, they'll need it.

Sometimes, even superstar athletes just wear out their welcome. When Gilbert Arenas came into the league back in 2001, and especially after he moved to the Wizards in '03, "Agent Zero" was poised to be the next big thing in basketball.
