“RiffTrax Live” 2009 presents: Plan 9 from Outer Space
Fenway 13
So maybe the Internet is killing
newspapers and television and the occasional e-bullied teenager. But on
the bright side, it’s also made possible the sheer bloody genius that
is RiffTrax. The brainchild of three
Mystery Science Theater 3000 alums, RiffTrax (unlike
MST3K)
bows to no copyright law. Instead, Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin
Murphy record their relentless mockery as MP3 commentary tracks that
you synch up to films yourself — which is why you can now hear these
guys heckling Spider-Man and Quantum of Solace in addition to Z-grade
’50s horror films. But for its simulcast debut,
“RiffTrax Live” kicks it old-school with a live-riffed screening of Edward D. Wood Jr.’s
Plan 9 from Outer Space.
Keep an ear out for special guest cameos by Something Awful’s Richard
“Lowtax” Kyanka and nerd troubadour Jonathan Coulton. | Fenway 13, 201
