BETTE, MEET PEDRO? With the Brattle Theatre running Bette Davis and Pedro Almodóvar tributes this summer, you might wish the two had had the chance to collaborate. Maybe Bette could have taken the Carmen Maura role in LA LEY DEL DESEO|LAW OF DESIRE (1987) as Tina, the transsexual sister of Pablo, who’s embroiled in a murderous love triangle with Juan and Antonio (Antonio Banderas)? Or maybe she could have played Assumpta Serna’s María in MATADOR (1986), the defense lawyer who shares an erotic fascination with violence with the incapacitated torero of the title. On second thought, maybe it’s best that they didn’t. The Brattle Theatre is at 40 Brattle St, Cambridge | La ley del deseo: 3 + 7:30 pm; Matador: 5:15 + 9:45 pm | 617.876.6837 or www.brattlefilm.org.
