A girl's guide to Boston boys

By NINA MACLAUGHLIN  |  September 4, 2009

It's a lovely neighborhood, historical Beacon Hill, all brick and lanterns and Brahmin reserve. Old money. New money. It's home to masters of finance, people in real estate, law, and business. You're a bit of a grown-up if you live on the Hill.

The poster boy: Neat of hair. Clean of cut. Tailored. Tucked-in. Pink shorts with embroidered crabs (summer). Lime-colored cashmere sweater (winter). Loafers.

Where to find him: Harvard Gardens, the Sevens, Beacon Hill Pub, Upper Crust, 75 Chestnut, the Liberty Hotel.

Now that we've mapped it out, we'd also remind you that, when it comes to romance (and getting to know a new city), it pays to explore outside your comfort box. You're a girl in pearls and Lily Pulitzer? Trot yourself off Charles Street and make your way to Chinatown or Central Square. And vice versa, you sweethearts with angular bangs and doves tattooed on your upper chest. Turns out looking for love in all the right places has less to do with street address and more to do with an open mind.
