Atmosphere + Blueprint + Grieves with Budo + Sab the Artist + DJ Abilities
To call Minneapolis indie hip-hop troupe Atmosphere’s music "emo rap" would be a total cop-out. Sure, Slug’s rhymes often focus on the gloomier side of life — backstabbing girlfriends (that fucking Lucy really did a number on him), life-ruining drug habits — but he always spits with such surefire intensity (plus a fair share of wry humor) that any woe-is-me undertones are dismissible. Atmosphere’s recently dropped album distances them even farther from that emo misnomer: The Family Sign (Rhymesayers Entertainment) is their most mature effort yet.
