Grace

The “décor” at 2009’s much-talked-about eatery is actually quite modest — what really shines at Grace, which opened last year in the former Chestnut Street Church, is the architecture. The gothic-revival style building, built in the 1850s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features soaring ceilings, stained-glass windows, and a balcony from which diners can gaze on the large circular bar down below; the well-received food is prepared in an open kitchen at the “altar.” Praise be to the gods of grandeur.
