A good downtown movie theater should have a marquee, some bulb-ringed posters lining the walls outside, a reasonably priced parking garage right next door, and the timelessly inviting waft of popcorn, ludicrously buttered and salted, immediately upon entering the place. The Nickelodeon is older. It’s smaller. It’s been around the block a few times. But even with its recent renovations, its very timelessness over the decades — first-run, then second-run, then first-run again — is comforting in this stressful and changing world, even if only for 115 minutes at a time.
