A Fine Thing: Edward T. Pollack Fine Arts

 BEdArtBinHuntingEdward_main

Walking into A Fine Thing, you feel as if you’ve slipped back a few years, and that’s a fine thing indeed. Galleries nowadays are professional and polished, seeking relevance and position, but in the evolution of the art business something valuable was lost, and Ed Pollack still has some of it.

Pollack deals in prints, drawings, photographs, rare books, and objets d’art, and the odd painting or sculpture that comes his way. His inventory is varied, eclectic, and a little idiosyncratic, but there is artistic quality running through everything on the premises. There are works by famous names, obscure names familiar only to specialists, and names that are wholly unknown.
Part of the pleasant atmosphere in Pollack’s rooms are bins of matted works on paper that can be perused at leisure, a feature that is rare in today’s galleries. Flipping through them provides a random window into the lives of the artists, mostly little-known and unfamiliar, who made them, offering the opportunity to acquire something that will make your life more interesting for a sometimes very modest amount of money. A Fine Thing restores the uncommon, and deeply enjoyable, art of browsing.
