Best Best Burger

What a no-brainer.  The Great Lost Bear is a burger-Mecca, without being the least bit tainted by any involvement with a national franchise. Here, you can delight to any number of vegetarian delicacies and sizeable salads, but who really gives a frig about those when you can eat red meat? Yes, red meat. We love it, especially when it assumes the form of a good-old patriotic burger. We love burgers with some wanky French herbal seasonings, we love burgers with a fried egg and bacon, and we love burgers simply with lettuce, tomato, and American cheese. In fact, the only way we don’t really love burgers is with barbecue sauce. Sorry Bear, we’ve tried this burger twice. Our run-ins with barbecue sauce aside, Great Lost Bear has been churning out its yummy burgers since 1979. The Bear now serves up eighteen types of burgers, as well as some great jalapeno poppers and other apps, a low-fat menu, and a 54 beers on tap, of which 15 are Maine microbrews. Plus, while you’re waiting in line, you can dare your honey to lick the glass plasma ball out front to see what will happen. If they do lick it, what will happen is you will break up with them because they’re a dumbass. The Great Lost Bear | 540 Forest Ave, Portland | 207.772.0300 |  www.greatlostbear.com
