Review: Our Family Wedding

Milks the unfunny from any and all black and Latino stereotypes

Black men are incredible athletes and have large penises. Mexican-Americans drive lowriders and have at least one incarcerated relative. If these sentiments tickle your fancy, you'll adore Rick Famuyiwa's film, as it milks the unfunny from any and all stereotypes ever tied to the two ethnicities.

Mock high jinks ensue when an interracial couple (America Ferrera and Lance Gross) travel home to inform their families of their engagement. Carlos Mencia and Forest Whitaker play the respective fathers, who — after a slur-laden first encounter — are dead-set on preventing the marriage. In a post-Obama world, you might assume the Latino grandmother would be more open to Ferrera's integrated love life — and you'd be wrong.

Likewise, if you were expecting redemption from Whitaker's comedic turn as a single father wading through his own demoralizing love life, you won't find it in the climax, where he's dry-fucked by a goat. Yikes.
