Punk 2 techno
For more than 16 years, Somerville’s Jonathan Gladstone has been one of the familiar voices of punk-rock radio on MIT’s WMBR, but now he’s switching his pitch up.
Boys Noize
Aficionados and connoisseurs of dance music qua dance music will find Oi Oi Oi a potent, concentrated dose of the undiluted pure stuff.
Planet B-Boy
Breakdancing seemed over and done in the ’80s, but hip-hop culture has pumped it alive, combining the original head-spinning street maves with rap, gymnastics, kung fu, MTV, and Broadway.
Breaking boundaries
Expanding the range of venues for artistic dance in southern Maine, the City Theater in Biddeford will host the second annual New England Dance Project on March 29.
Tellers and a show
Dancers do a lot of talking about their work these days. This can be disarming and engaging as a lead-in to a performance, but it seldom gives away any secrets.
Giant Steps
Island Moving Co.’s summer concert series, Flight of Steps , once again combines company members and guest performers, local and out-of-town choreographers.
Holiday favorites
For many of us, the holidays would not be the same without the familiar melodies and musical traditions we’ve grown to love.
Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School
This latest dance-as-therapy vehicle is a scattered, cliché’d look at male grief.
Taking the B-boys to School
You may have noticed, hip-hop dance has gone legit — or at least slightly commercial.
Wising up
Sergei Prokofiev’s two classical ballets invariably find Boston Ballet playing the dating game.
Lightweights
Two of Boston’s major dance series wound up their 2006–2007 season last week with low-calorie desserts.
