Best Indie Act in Portland

Brenda

feat_bmp_indie_brenda

Let's put it this way — after hearing their album once, Jeff Tweedy, the lead singer of Wilco, signed this band up for a 45-minute set at a festival he is organizing this summer. Brenda, whose full-length debut is due out June 29, have taken Portland by storm, mixing laid-back indie-pop song structures with catchy vocal melodies and dreamy guitar lines. In their music video for "Blackout" — directed by Nick Poulin and Krister Rollins of Portland's [dog] and [pony] — the band get drenched in PBR as they play in a seedy, hipster-infested basement. It doesn't get much more indie than that. And they have a big summer coming up with performances at Tweedy's Solid Sound Festival in Massachusetts and the new Nateva Music Festival here in Maine, as well as a CD-release show at SPACE Gallery at the end of the month.
