Rustic Overtones, New Way Out

Eight years after their last fully original album, is New Way Out from the same band that caught everyone's attention with their grainy alternative rock all those years ago? For the most part, yes. Their popular chaotic rock is more subdued, and their newfound orchestral depth (even without former keyboardist Spencer Albee) adds extra coats of polish to a usually grungy sound. But fear not, frontman David Gutter's staggering riffs and scene-stealing vocals keep their trademark style intact, and help the Overtones secure the Best Live Act for the second year in a row. With rhythmic bass lines and catchy horn segments, they still bounce off the walls with the same energy and pizzazz as ever.
