Upset balance
Concerning the review of the “Holiday Group Show” at the Front Room Gallery (see “Balancing Act,” by Ian Paige, January 11), I’ve got issues.

First you presume a “theme” to the show and you assume a better utilization of the space with the next show. But what really “eats my lunch” is your description of my work as having “quilt-inspired triangles.” The triangles and squares in my works and the triangles in quilts are inspired by the same thing — shape and color and their juxtapositions. “Crayola” colors also play no role in my pieces. It’s all in your head.

Your image of Joseph Albers and “patterns for plaid hunting jackets” in Jennifer Gardiner’s works are equally ridiculous.

This kind of blather is typical of too many art reviewers and it really constitutes a disservice to the overall arts scene and, in this case, to this gallery.

EDITOR’S NOTE The review also misspelled Michael Maltby’s last name.
