Anna's Ghost haunts the Empire

Sibilance
By PORTLAND PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  September 9, 2009

• Maybe it's a blip on the radar screen, but there seems to be a renewed interest in the music video lately. TWISTED ROOTS have been garnering attention for their "Hollow Earth" effort and we're big fans of the bare-chested LEFTOVERS that splash through "Telephone Operator." Now HOLY BOYS DANGER CLUB have a vid for "Criminal," off of the Lessons For Liars EP. The folks at GUY MANLY VIDEOS (they shot the Cambiata doc) are responsible — check holyboysdangerclub.com to catch a peek. It's noirish and entertaining.

• Hat tip to ERIC BETTENCOURT, who correctly pointed out that RAY LAMONTAGNE did not actually play "Hannah" at the CCCC — rather, it was "Jolene." We just can't keep those girls straight.

• There have been some fits and starts, but it looks like ANNA'S GHOST are ready to release their debut full-length with a gig at the Empire on September 18. WILL ETHRIDGE (TOWER OF SONG, which is kind of on hiatus because of fire-code issues, but will be back in October at the ARCADIA DESIGNWORKS studio) will release the disc on his ETERNAL OTTER imprint. We're not 100 percent clear on what the lineup will be for the show, though.

BILLY LYNCH's DEEP IN THE BELLY MANAGEMENT now represents four bands/artists in town: THIS WAY, ADAM KURTZ, MARION GRACE, and JACOB AUGUSTINE. There haven't been a lot of artist-management success stories in Portland, and most efforts have clearly been labors of love, but here's hoping Lynch can establish himself as a business that furthers artist careers.
