Sibilance

Portland music news
By  |  January 5, 2006

The Top Dog at the Maine Songwriters Association, Heather Caston, is ready to release her first solo disc, Again, this week. A CD-release show is in the works, but the disc should be available at Bull Moose any minute. You can get a preview at www.heathercaston.com, but Caston warns that the mp3s there are pre-Bob Ludwig, who did the mastering for her final product, and "the final copy sounds significantly better." Caston used to sing with old friend Nancy Cartonio before going solo, and the pair providing backup vocals on Jason Spooner’s Lost Houses, from 2003. If you’re not familiar with the Maine Songwriters Association, check out www.mesongwriters.com for their series of artist showcases, the most well known of which happens at Acoustic Coffee every Thursday night. Check the "Listings" for weekly artists' appearances.

Final word: Ruler of the Raging Main. Seriously. See them at Bubba’s January 12 with Taming the Shrew and Mongoltide.

Boreal Tordu, Maine’s premier Acadian outfit mining French-Canadian heritage for all it's worth, has their first studio effort back from the duplicator. La Bonne Vie is a 12-song affair that serves as follow-up to the band’s eight-song live recording from 2004. The band are headed up by Rob Sylvain, Gigafone Records guru, and also features Steve Muise, Rob Bonnevie, and former Piner Pip Walter (and honorary Franco-Mainer).

The "Sibilance" staff would like to take a brief moment to defend Sam Pfeifle’s honor. A certain letter-writer from Windham questioned his respect, living arrangements, and penis size. First of all, the amount of glowing praise that Pfeifle has heaped upon Joe Brien and Al Hawkes over the years borders on the embarrassing, and the Hawkes thing was making fun of the Maine Country Music Association anyway. Second, his parents have a nice house in Cape Elizabeth that would be hard for anyone to leave. Third, go poop in your hat.
