Big news out of the Rustic Overtones camp: keyboardist/vocalist SPENCER ALBEE has left the band, replaced by SEAN MORIN, whom one would think was already pretty busy with his work in the Cambiata, Daro, and Dominic and the Lucid. According to Albee, the break is amicable, and “I need a change of pace, as well as clarity and perspective. Since 1995, I’ve been on tour and making records constantly, and now I find myself seeking respite.” Okay, so that was a prepared statement.
PETE KILPATRICK has announced plans for the release of his fourth disc, Hope in Our Hearts, which will drop September 30, with a pair of release shows (all ages at 5 pm, 21+ at 9 pm) at the Empire on October 4. Kilpatrick’s solidified a rotating roster into the PETE KILPATRICKBAND, which features Zach Jones on guitar (free from As Fast As duties for the time being), Matt Cosby on bass (former Jeremiah Freed), Matt Lydon on drums and Steve Morell on keys.

- So good
One way to experiment with songwriting is to throw convention out the window, eschew verses and choruses, try to be completely unique. Sometimes the idea appears that if a song sounds like anything that came before it, well, that's points deducted like a gymnast who missed her landing. It's derivative!
