Music seen at Bubba's Sulky Lounge, November 9

There is something undeniably comforting about consistency. Every Friday night, like clockwork, Digital Dori puts on a hell of a party called ’80s Night. You’ve definitely heard of it; you’ve probably been at least once, and you may have even gotten out some special spandex gear for the occasion. It covers all the basics: drinks, DJs, dress-up, and dancing. The dance floor (a functioning ode to Saturday Night Fever), taxidermy, and lunchboxes are just added benefits.
Resident DJ Jon is definitely doing something right. The floor is always packed, the crowd singing along. While I could bust his chops for the full-on German version of Nena’s “99 Luftballons,” he gets a pass for closing his set with the delicious “Erotic City” by The Purple One, released roughly two decades before he gave his music away for free in the papers and at shows.
DJ j.hjort is the curator of Alternative ’80s, a new companion to ’80s Night taking place in the recently-expanded back room. This night might be every DJ's equivalent of playing in a cover band; playing your earliest musical influences to a roomful of churning bodies. J dazzled the new-wave and college-rock cognoscenti with little-known Flock of Seagulls tracks, at one point lamenting that they had only released two albums. Most impressive was j’s drop of an early Ministry track from their electro-dance era, before the dark side took over.

- Summer’s ending
With Labor Day here, many would think it time to put away the barbecue grill and pack up the party. Not so

The refrain is clear in my head: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

In just a few short days, the life of Saint Patrick will be celebrated the world over with his namesake holiday, Ireland's most visible mark on the global calendar.
- Keep your skin on
Skinless, boneless cuts of fish are convenient — you don't have to clean them yourself — but getting rid of those "extras" takes away a lot of flavor, and a lot of the nutrition, too. Good news! It's easy to grill whole fish, and they make a great centerpiece for summer cookouts.
- Making ceviche
Recently, I heard a quote from uber-foodie, author, and TV personality Nigella Lawson in which she insisted that entertaining shouldn’t be about your aspirations, but about your personality.

- Gastronomic stimulus package
This, coupled with the thaw and other natural stimulus packages, write a recipe for the spoils of spring: maturing cheeses, bright wines, green garlic ramps, and outdoor eating.

The air is beginning to get chilly, but, thankfully, so is the beer.

It’s August and I shamefully admit I have only managed to make it to the Wednesday Farmer’s Market in Monument Square once this summer.
