Let’s be viral. Let’s mount a campaign of targeted prank purchasing and turn
Born into This
into a monster hit, the hard-rock success story of 2007. No one, I suspect, would be more surprised by such an eventuality than the Cult themselves, who despite always titanic levels of rock-star delusion must at some level be aware that this time they have turned in a truly half-assed piece of work. The first couplet of the title track is “Yeah, NYC!/The place to be!” The riff of “Dirty Little Rockstar” is a slavish reprise of the Rolling Stones’ “Undercover.” No amount of bacon-throated huff-and-puff from Ian Astbury can make these songs whole. Here’s what the people want from the Cult: bonehead riffs, post-goth flicker-and-gleam, and a bit of sub-shamanic stomp from Astbury. Is that so hard? It would seem it is.

The Cult | Choice Of Weapon
Second acts are hard enough to deliver successfully in the pantheon of hard rock, so it's surprising then that the Cult, now well into their third go-round, still give their audience exactly what they crave.
Stoned
Stephen Woolley, producer of Absolute Beginners and The Crying Game , takes a turn directing with this docudrama about Brian Jones, the enigmatic fop who helped found the Rolling Stones and later died an ignominious death.
The wild bunch
One of the lies I tell myself is that some day I’ll care about the Rolling Stones as much as I care about the New York Dolls.

Interview: Steve Swallow on the Gary Burton Quartet
DO YOU REMEMBER EXACTLY HOW YOU GUYS FIRST GOT TOGETHER? I have a memory. I tend to distrust them, but my recollection is that I met Gary when he called me up and asked me if I would consider playing in Stan Getz's band, which he was already in.

The Rolling Stones, again
A bemused Keith mumbled something about “déjà vu,” but this was no rehash of the Fenway Park gig.
Happy endings
The end is nigh! And I’m not talking about the mortgage market.
Excerpt: Patti Smith's Just Kids
The stars were lining up to enter the Ziegfeld Theatre for the glittering premiere of the film Ladies & Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones. I was excited to be there.

GETTING TO KNOW PHILIP LARKIN WITH A NEW EDITION OF HIS POEMS
| April 26, 2012
"A smash of glass and a rumble of boots/Electric trains and a ripped-up phonebooth/Paint-spattered walls and the cry of a tomcat/Lights going out, and a kick in the balls." These lines are not by Philip Larkin, of course — they're by Paul Weller.
BLACK SABBATH ARE BACK — IN PRINT AND ON FILM

The literature on Black Sabbath — already extensive — will continue to grow, as we try, try, try again to wrap our poor noggins around the irreducibly cosmic fact of this band.
