TMNT

Turtle power!

VIDEO: Watch the trailer for TMNT.

Cowabunga, dude! With advances in CGI FX this was bound to happen: back in early ’90s, the popular kids’ cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got turned into a cheesy live-action feature series, and now, some 14 years later, it’s resurrected as an animated feature that’s titled as just an acronym. The story picks up with the crimefighting team languishing in disarray. It seems sibling rivalry has torn the outfit apart; fortunately, 13 transmogrified beasties have descended on New York City to wreak havoc and give the reptilian lads an opportunity to galvanize and kick ass. Also in the fray: a cursed warrior king from 3000 years back, stone statues swinging swords, and Asian cinema darling Ziyi Zhang as the voice of Karai, the head of an elite ninja troop. The plot’s all over the place, but director Kevin Munroe keeps it at a hare’s pace. The sharp graphics impress too. It’s nothing to cow about, but it does, more or less, fill its shell.

If Rod Lurie's errant remake of Straw Dogs didn't tickle your morbid fear of home invasion, then perhaps the latest from Joel Schumacher ( Falling Down ) might do the job.
