BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE 2

Martin Lawrence again dons foam and latex to incarnate a rotund, none-too feminine granny in John Whitesell’s sequel to the broad 2000 comedy. He’s Mrs. Doubtfire with more booty and a splash of hip-hop as the new Momma takes a more nurturing, family-oriented bent. No surprise, really: his alter ego, screwball FBI agent Malcolm Turner, is married (to Nia Long, from the first
Momma
) and has a child on the way, and his undercover persona, Big Momma, plays nanny to three neglected rich kids and a depressed Chihuahua. Tequila and a boombox fix most of those problems, but there’s still the Internet worm that threatens to gobble up the CIA’s databanks. World security hangs in the balance, Big Momma jogs down the beach in golden dreadlocks à la Bo Derek in 10, and then there’s the visit to the chi-chi spa where Victoria’s Secret models romp around naked. It’s thin, but enough to make you forget the cold for 90 minutes.

The Underworld series got long in the tooth early, but here, in the fourth installment (directed by Swede Måns Mårlind), it grows new fangs.
REVIEW: JOYFUL NOISE
| January 10, 2012
There's not much joy but there's plenty of noise of the rafter-rocking gospel singing variety in Tony Graff's musical dramedy.
REVIEW: IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY
| January 05, 2012
Jolie has loosely reworked the story of Romeo and Juliet in an infamous setting familiar from CNN but here seen from the inside.
REVIEW: ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED
| December 13, 2011
For 50 years, Alvin and the Chipmunks have been driving parents nuts with their helium-infused banter and shrill bastardizations of pop music.
REVIEW: TRESPASS
| October 13, 2011
If Rod Lurie's errant remake of Straw Dogs didn't tickle your morbid fear of home invasion, then perhaps the latest from Joel Schumacher ( Falling Down ) might do the job.
