We asked some of Portland's scariest lead singers what scares them
By SARA DONNELLY | February 21, 2007
 Boo Leavitt |
Sean Libby “Sid,” End of Everything (metal)
I’d have to say conspiracy, love, religion, Ktulu, puddles in the Himalayas and the Andes and all that, cryptozoology (or the truth about it anyways), blind obedience. That’s pretty much it.
Aepril Schaile, Aepril Schaile and the Judgement (Experimental/Classical/Gothic)
When I was a little kid I was terrified of clowns. My mom used to bring me to the circus and I would scream. The happy ones with the faces scare me because they’re not happy underneath. I think they scared me as a kid because I kinda knew.
Diana Adams “Die,” 13 Winters (Metal)
I’m scared of snakes. All snakes. Mostly when they hiss. I was always around my brother and he was told to kill the snakes in our yard when I was younger. So every time I was around him, he’d always get the snake to hiss and I was always afraid it was going to come after me.
Boo Leavitt, Covered in Bees (Punk/Deathmetal/Hardcore)
 Diana Adams "Die" |
You want the true answer? Ghosts. Swear to god. The unknown, that’s pretty much what ghosts are, what we don’t know about the world we live in. I’m not even kidding I have a ghost thing. I don’t like the ghost movies, I can watch gore all day long. Japanese ghost films? I’ve got the lights on. Any movie that’s from Japan and about ghosts, terrifying.
Rick Dalton “Ricky Boy Floyd,” The Horror (Death Lounge)
When my bass player or drummer calls me on the phone, that terrifies me. Because it’s usually bad news, something that’s so amazingly irresponsible or disappointing that no rational being should ever have to face it. They either need something or they’re delivering news that’s terrifying to me. It gives me a little heart attack. They have a special ring that sounds like a submarine-warning beacon.
Melynda Amann “Cruella,” By Blood Alone (Gothic/Metal/Pop)
I would say alien invasion would scare me. Like Mars Attacks or something. Just the thought of like War of the Worlds. You know, getting vaporized and getting raped and pillaged by aliens and there being half-breeds and things like that.
Kris Milo, Taming the Shrew (Soothing Dementia)
If I really think about it, the fact that we’re on a planet scares me. Just floating in this big vast blackness of nobody knows what the hell it is. It’s kind of frightening to me, if I dwell on it. The sun could stop, stupid things like that. Things that we have no control over really scare me.
Ken Carlson “Candy,” Ocean (Metal/Rock)
Working. I hate working. The thought of working every day for the rest of my life scares the crap out of me. That’s why I’m a musician.
