"To the East, Blackwards: Islam & Muslims in the Black Radical Imagination"

WCHP Lecture Hall, Portland, ME   (view map)

HEADING EAST | Sohail Daulatzai, a Film and Media Studies professor at the African American Studies School of Humanities in Irvine, California, delivers an intriguing cultural studies lecture titled “TO THE EAST, BLACKWARDS: ISLAMS AND MUSLIMS IN THE BLACK RADICAL IMAGINATION.” Something of a hip hop aficionado and musicologist, Daulatzai doesn’t seem the type to deliver stuffy academic lectures. The co-author of Born to Use Mics: Reading Nas’s Illmatic and “Protect Ya Neck: Muslims and the Carceral Imagination in the Age of Guantanamo” speaks at 6 pm, free at UNE’s WCHP Lecture Hall, 716 Stevens Ave. 207.221.4375.
