Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel

131 Congress St, Portsmouth, NH   (view map)

PRONOUNCED DEE-AHH-NAH | THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL is the title of a complex documentary about the late modernist tastemaker Diana Vreeland, a former fashion editor for Harper’s Bazaar for nearly 30 years who became editor-in-chief of Vogue in 1963. The iconic Vreeland was constantly surrounded by celebrities, and is herself a bit of an outsized character, but the doc appears to do a fine job using her as a proxy for several waves of American cultural thought, among them feminism, secularism, and consumerism. It screens at 7:30 pm at the Music Hall, 131 Congress St. in Portsmouth, NH. 603.436.2400.
