TRY TRY AGAIN | The legendary status of CANNIBAL OX’s first and only record The Cold Vein was built by two things. One, it was released in 2001, right as prominent indie-rock review sites began to pay attention to hip hop. Two, it’s a straight-up phenomenal listen, full of El-P’s dark, murky production and two of the most charismatic MCs of their milieu, Vast Aire and Vordul Mega. In fact, the duo may have been spooked by the success, as they never released a follow-up and subsequent solo efforts fell flat. Over the past year, however, they’ve reunited, and while a second album is on promise, they play a highly recommended show at the Big Easy, with the illustrious local rapper BRZOWSKI, new collective VIOLENTLY ILL, and PROP ANON. 9:30 pm; $15-18. 55 Market St., 207.775.2266.
