John Hammond + Amy Black

181 State St, Portland, ME   (view map)

Filed under: country, folk, blues, jazz, rock, singer-songwriter

RARE BREED | The bluesman JOHN HAMMOND — also known as John Hammond Jr. to distinguish him from his father, the producer and civil-rights activist John H. Hammond — was among the first white practitioners of delta blues to emerge in the ’60s. Now 70 years old, his music has been tempered very little; he’s one of the genre’s finest active players. In a nice grab for the venue, Hammond plays with Boston country-blues player AMY BLACK at One Longfellow Square, 181 State St., at 8 pm; $25-28. 207.761.1757.
