Those who know JOZEF VAN WISSEM’s work swear by him; those who don’t, should. The Dutch composer and lutenist played was a bit of a revelation when he played SPACE Gallery a couple years ago. His performance was austere and mesmerizing, and his studiously modern approach to improvisation and composition has given new life to a baroque instrument. He even apes guitar-shredder poses when things get too grim. A high recommendation for his show, this time at the Oak and the Ax with ROBBIE LEE and rural folk duo ARBOREA. 7:30 pm, $7; 140 Main St. Ste 140 in Biddeford.
