The wildly successful and completely outrageous 48 HOUR MUSIC FESTIVAL takes SPACE over at 9 pm. If you’re unaware of the premise: 25-minute performances by ad hoc musical groups of locals who learned they were playing with each other two days prior. 48 Hour Fests in years past have brought some excellent and surprising combinations — last year’s tech-driven pop-core band VCR and 2010’s doom-y Cloven Dozer come to mind — and have served practical functions too, getting musicians to consider collaborations with people they otherwise wouldn’t have. One of the best examples of Portland’s game-based creative culture, see it at 9 pm for $10 at SPACE Gallery, 538 Congress St. 207.828.5600.
