The nationally recognized experimental string duo MARY HALVORSON AND JESSICA PAVONE appear at Buoy Gallery, the lovely little arts bunker in Kittery. Halvorson’s a relentless collaborator and one of the most esteemed guitarists in avant-jazz-improv circuits. She usually holds down the “straight” timbres to far noisier artists like Weasel Walter, but her work with the cellist Pavone is far more rhythmic and lyrical, and last resulted in the excellent 2009 album Thin Air. Their appearance here is part of a mini-tour of New England — Kittery is as far north as they come — before Halvorson plays a Derek Bailey memorial show in New York with legendary skronker Elliott Sharp. With Vermont songwriter CHRIS WEISMAN, who writes surprisingly pretty and straightforward folk-pop ditties given his far-out resume. 8 pm, by donation, BYOB. 2 Government St., visit buoygallery.org for more.
